Black Eyed Peas to play GF

AMERICAN band Black Eyed Peas will headline the AFL Grand Final alongside Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes.

The group – albeit without former vocalist Fergie – will perform at the September 29 event and Working Class Man Barnes will deliver the pre and post-match vocals.

“We are honoured to be heading to Melbourne to perform at the AFL Grand Final Day. This is the biggest day in Australian sport, so we will be pulling out all the stops for this special performance. See you soon,” the Black Eyed Peas said in a statement.

It’ll be the first time the group has returned to Australia since 2009, but it’s their first trip Down Under since Fergie left the band.

Barnes said he was excited to be singing at one of the world’s greatest sporting events.

“It doesn’t get bigger than this – 100,000 passionate football fans and rock ‘n roll will be a great mix. Bring it on,” he said in a statement.

Australian guitarist Diesel will accompany Barnes while his daughter, singer-songwriter Mahalia Barnes, will perform the national anthem.

Footy fans without a ticket to the match can rock it with Barnes for free at the MCG during the Premiership Party from 7pm.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan said the two headliners were perfect entertainers for the big day and was confident they’d get footy fans on their feet.
